Matheaus and Maelani first met in 8th grade, brought together by the same friend group. What began as a simple friendship quickly became something special as they spent more time together, laughing, talking, and getting to know one another during those early teenage years. By freshman year of high school, their friendship had grown into an inseparable bond. They talked and FaceTimed almost every day, sharing the little details of life and becoming each other’s biggest supporters. During that time, they both admitted that they liked each other, but sometimes the sweetest love stories require a little patience. The timing just wasn’t quite right yet, and their relationship continued to grow as a deep and meaningful friendship. The summer going into sophomore year (2018), Maelani began to realize that her feelings for Matheaus had grown into something even more meaningful. As Homecoming season approached, she finally shared her secret with her best friend Karen, that she liked Matheaus and secretly hoped he would ask her to the dance. Karen did what best friends do, she told him. From that moment on, everything fell into place. What started as a middle school friendship blossomed into a beautiful love story. Through every season of life, Matheaus and Maelani have grown up side by side, with friendship at the heart of their relationship.
