No cars allowed on the Island!! So the best way to see everything is by bike! We have done the bike loop many times over the years and it's always so much fun! It's 8.2 miles, so be ready to spend at least an hour on the loop. We promise it's worth it though, the views won't disappoint.
Sam and I recently spent some time walking the Island. We had never been inland before, usually staying near the shore line. It was so much fun to explore and see things we haven't before. We recommend taking some time, if you have any, to walk some trails. Make sure to wear comfortable shoes, the terrain can be rocky.
We are in Mackinaw City a lot, and I mean A LOT. We've explored just about every shop in the crossings. There are a lot of cool and interesting shops here that are fun to just explore. If you have the urge to buy clothing here, go to Harbor Wear. Their clothing has a better closet life than other shops nearby.
Headlands Dark Sky Park is an awesome place to visit. We first visited about 4 years ago when I (Mae) was looking for cool things to do in our new home state of Michigan. This is a "no light pollution zone", meaning only red light is allowed at the parks at night. This makes it so you can see all of the night sky and the stars. They also have a few hiking trails for some day time activities. If you have the chance to visit, we highly recommend.
This is our FAVORITE place to eat in Mackinaw City. We visit several times per year. Since moving to Michigan, we have even made the 4 hour drive just to eat here before they close for the winter season. We highly recommend you trying it out if you also enjoy sea food a little too much!
