This restaurant is an all-time fave! Specializing in Cajun cuisine, the Uptown Cafe offers absolutely banging red beans and rice AND blue cheese olives for your dirty martini (which is a must for us).
Eleanor was what's known colloquially as a "Bloomingfoods kid" - meaning that her family spent and spends a LOT of time at this co-op (and that her childhood version of junk food was red-hot blue tortilla chips). If you visit the store (which is strongly recommended) you just might find yourself coming back every day...possibly up to three times a day.
Griffy Lake is a great place for a hike or a kayak and/or to peep the famous Indiana early fall foliage! Other honorable mentions: Cascades, anywhere in Brown County, Indiana State Park.
Perfect place for any of the self-proclaimed cinephiles on our guest list! :) IU Cinema is known for screening off-the-beaten-path classics.
Soma has some of the best drinks around and is a great place to hang for an afternoon and play Scrabble! We recommend: The Lebowski, The Bee Sting, and Doctor D's if you're feeling a cold coming on. Other honorable mentions: Hopscotch, Runcible Spoon, Crumble.
The Antique Mall is full of treasures! It's inexpensive and they truly have EVERYTHING. We're talking vintage glassware, haunted dolls, animal skulls, jewelry - they got it all and more.
This bookstore is full of gems and it has a moving ladder (so fun) - but DON'T forget to check your bag at the front or you WILL get yelled at and you WILL cry if you have a lot of water placements.
Need a cozy movie and pizza night in? Order some Mother Bear's pizza! Other honorable mentions: Aver's (get the Cream and Crimson) and Pizza Xpress (best breadsticks in the world - get the cheese sauce for dipping).
If you come into town on Wednesday, you have to go to the Root Cellar for karaoke! Dave Walters is the best karaoke host, bar none.
If you're a fan of mint and chocolate, you have to try the Grasshopper milkshake at the Chocolate Moose - just be ready to have your world rocked.
Try the Tom Kha or the Yellow Curry meal here (but especially the Tom Kha it's insanely delish).
Vulture Video (formerly Plan 9) has a special place in Eleanor's heart! You can find truly some of the most bizarre, unsettling, and obscure films that exist here, and even if you didn't happen to bring a DVD player to the wedding weekend it's just fun to browse. They also host regular movie screenings in the back - this is where Eleanor first saw two of her favorites for the first time (Desperately Seeking Susan and Deathproof).
