Let me first preface this by saying that my church in Auburn was TINY! It was fabulous, but we all knew when people were coming and going. So, I thought I knew precisely when Zane arrived. My friends had told me after Christmas break that there was a new cute military boy who was attending now. I never paid the military people much attention, so I forgot about it until Sunday. I would like to say that I noticed him from across the room from his dashing good looks, but that isn't the case. I looked over, and the first thing that crossed my mind was "why is he sitting in church with no socks and drinking a Pedialyte?". It's safe to say that I laughed a lot. For about a month I would call my mom and tell her about the new boy at church and how he never wore his socks, and every time she asked if we had talked yet. Finally I went up and introduced myself because we apparently were never going to make eye contact so I could maybe smile and see if he would come my way. It's safe to say that I made all the first moves as I was the one to add him on Facebook AND I messaged him first inviting him to a mid-week church activity. It may have been fate, but little did I know that Zane never has his phone during his army training, but that week he had it to see my message. He got done early enough to make it that week to the activity. Our first date was the week after, thankfully he was the one who asked me out on that. We really only had plans to go to an Auburn baseball game, but the date ended up lasting the whole day with a walk downtown to get popsicles and dinner. On the date, I found out that he had been there in December before I went home for Christmas and he noticed me then when I got up on the stand. Zane has been a real gift from God. I don't think it was a coincidence that we met when we did. I am so excited for what the future holds and all the adventures we are going to have for our little family as he moves to South Carolina! I sure do love him!
I was stationed at Fort Benning, Georgia for Officer Candidate School and Infantry Basic Officer Leadership School. After I graduated OCS, my friend Jack and I decided to stop going to the depressing church on Fort Benning filled with young privates in Basic Training. We kept hearing how great the Single's ward was at Auburn University, so we decided it was worth our time to make the hour trip every Sunday to go to church in Auburn. While attendant the singles ward in Auburn, I kept noticing this very beautiful girl. I asked my friend Jack what he knew about her, and he responded with something that I assumed "she had a boyfriend." I later found out that he was wrong. A few weeks later I start noticing that this cute girl at church is sitting closer to me at church and seems to be a little bit more approachable. Madison and I began to engage in small talk, she would ask what I do, and I asked what she did. I understood absolutely nothing about P.A. school, and she knew absolutely nothing about the military, but we were both very receptive of each other. During land navigation week I got a message from Madison inviting me to a Church activity that happens every Thursday night. I informed her that I spend most of my weeks in the field or at the range, but I should be able to go in two weeks. Fast forward two weeks and I'm at the church activity in Auburn. Madison gave us all the privilege of teaching us the spiritual lesson. I asked Madison to go on a date the following weekend, she said she would love to. We decided on going to a baseball game for our date and Madison fell in love.
