We met when we were each 14 years old while playing a national tennis tournament called "Zonals" that was held in Colorado at the US Airforce Academy. We have our parents to thank, as they were the ones who introduced us to one another and asked that we warm up together to prepare for our upcoming matches. We were each representing team Northern California but had never met one another before. We exchanged phone numbers and began texting one another every day after the tournament had ended. After months of talking to one another nonstop every day, we became best friends and decided to start dating… best decision ever!!! We dated all throughout high school despite living two hours away from one another. We were blessed with the best parents in the world because they would take turns each month driving us to visit one another. Once it was time to leave for college, Randy left for The University of Utah to play tennis and I left to live in San Diego to play tennis for Point Loma Nazarene. After another 2 years of dating long-distance, I was invited to play tennis for the University of Utah where Randy attended. We finally ended the long-distance after 5 ½ years and played tennis in the PAC-12 together! It was a dream come true!
Randy proposed to me on the beach in Carmel-By-The-Sea, CA. He and his mom, Alice, asked if I wanted to take a walk on the beach while we were in town. I was very excited, as Carmel-By-The-Sea’s beach is one of my favorite places in the world to visit because of how many cherished memories Randy and I have there together. Randy asked me to look out at the water because he said he saw dolphins. I immediately started looking out at the horizon, trying to see if I could see any. As I turned back around towards him I was shocked to find him holding up a box and kneeling on one leg. After saying yes, my entire family popped out from their hiding spot on a cliff above us and started cheering. I was so surprised and delighted to see them! Randy really surprised me! Best proposal ever!
After graduating side-by-side from Utah, we each got jobs in Salt Lake City. A few months later an amazing, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity arose to buy two local restaurants in Modesto, CA. We jumped on the offer, bought a house, and moved back to Modesto. Now we own and operate 2 restaurants called “The Chicken Barn” and plan to franchise and expand in the future. Did I mention we also got our first fur-baby?! Her name is Rosie and she is a mini bernedoodle who has lots of love and playful energy. We are so excited for our future together and so grateful for all of our friends and family that have played such an important role in our love story.
