In the Spring of 2024, Petina, Maddie's mom, attended church at the Summit with Maddie after a girls weekend. Following service, Petina immediately said "Maddie, there is this cute tattoo boy that I saw in church that looked your age. You should get to know him!". Maddie was not in the place to meet anyone new, & ultimately, it was not God's timing. For months to come, Petina sent Maddie a good morning texts on Sunday's before church, occasionally throwing in the "Maybe today will be the day you meet Tattoo Boy". In January of 2025, the day finally arrived where Maddie turned around in church & a boy who fit the description of this "Tattoo Boy" was sitting in the seat behind her. With her detective-like investigating skills, Maddie quickly learned that Tattoo Boy was named Nick Brawley, & asked our dear friends Stef & Gil about him. Both immediately agreed that they had to meet, & that they would be a match made in heaven. Within minutes, Gil sent Nick a text saying that he had a girl that he would love Nick to meet named Maddie Spade, & Nick responded that he would be open to meeting someone, even if in the end he just had a new Godly friend. After a failed staged introduction planned by Stef and Gil, Maddie decided to take matters into her own hands & introduced herself to Nick as he was greeting at the Summit Church Doors on February 9th, 2025. A quick tap on the shoulder & a "Hi, I'm Maddie, the girl Gil texted you about.", resulted in a shocked look from Nick with the response "Oh, you're Maddie?!". Maddie responded with a quick "Nice to meet you!", & ran out the doors. Hours later, after telling her parents she finally introduced herself to Tattoo Boy almost a year after he became a topic of discussion in their household, Nick sent Maddie a message on Facebook telling her he would love to get to know her over dinner. Three days later they had their first four hour date, followed by a second eight hour date (yes, eight hours and two waitress shift changes later), followed by the third date, just ten days after meeting, where they officially began dating on February 19th, 2025. Over the first dates, the 2 quickly realized they sat 1 row apart in church for over 6 months before meeting, with countless chances to meet before they did. A month into dating, Maddie finally had the courage to ask Nick, "Why did you look so shocked with the face that you made when I introduced myself to you?". Nick responded, "I looked at you in the way that I did because a month before I met you, I saw you in the Summit parking lot for the first time & thought "Wow, she is pretty cute.", but quickly stopped myself as I did not want anything that wasn't from God. During the 11:00 service on February 9th, I noticed a beautiful girl sitting in front of me & quickly realized that she was the girl that I saw in the parking lot weeks before. I was confused on what to do given that Gil had texted me telling me there was this Maddie Spade he wanted to introduce me to, while also having this girl sitting in front of me that I just felt God prompting me to introduce myself to. I decided that at the end of service I was going to introduce myself to you, but quickly remembered I had to leave early to greet. When you tapped me on the shoulder at the door & told me your name, I turned around in shock realizing that the girl I saw in the parking lot was the same girl Gil wanted to introduce me to.". ... & The rest is history! Nick & Maddie quickly realized that they wanted to chase after Jesus together for all of their days on this side of heaven. On January 24th, 2026, Nick proposed to Maddie in the same place that they met just 11 months earlier. "God led us to meet in front of these doors for the first time, & so in front of these doors I want to ask you to continue pursuing God with me & all that he has for us.". We hope that our love story reminds you of God's faithfulness, that His timing is perfect, and that He loves us in such intentional ways.
