Join us to start the wedding festivities. This is an optional gathering if you would like to come to hang out. This is a potluck evening so we would love for you to bring an appetizer and your favorite drink and get to know the other guests! "Polterabend" is a German wedding-tradition. The guests break porcelain to bring luck to the couple's marriage - So if you can bring porcelain as well. The belief in the effectiveness of this custom is expressed by the old adage: "Shards bring luck" (German: Scherben bringen Glück). The main part of the evening is throwing porcelain that has been brought by guests onto the ground. However, flowerpots or ceramics such as tiles, sinks and even toilet bowls are also happily thrown items. Glass may not be broken because glass symbolizes happiness. Mirrors should not be broken due to the old superstition that breaking a mirror will bring seven years of bad luck. It is also tradition that the Bride and Groom take care of cleaning up the pile.
