In September 2019, Matt moved into his new college house to start his junior year at URI. He was living there with five of his friends, and on move-in day, one of them invited a group of people over to see the new house. That’s when he met Maddie. Even though they grew up in different towns and went to different schools, Maddie and Matt had shared the same circle of friends since the beginning of high school. Somehow, they had never met, never crossed paths, and had never even heard each other’s names, until that night. From the moment they met, they clicked instantly. The two were just friends for a while. They went on trips with their group, ended up at all the same college parties, and spent so many nights by the fire pit in Maddie’s backyard celebrating birthdays and making memories with friends. Over time, their friendship slowly turned into something more. Then on June 24, 2021, at Second Beach in Newport, RI, Matt officially asked Maddie to be his girlfriend. After four and a half years of love, laughter, lots of traveling, graduating college, starting their first jobs, moving into a new apartment, and welcoming their puppy Reese into their lives, Matt proposed to Maddie on December 13, 2025, on the same beach where he first asked her to be his girlfriend in 2021. It was the easiest yes.
