Our Story

We’ve technically known each other forever — Maddy was friends with Luuk’s sister in school — but it wasn’t until the end of summer 2020 that things began to change, and Luuk decided to make a move. It all started with a double date that Maddy thought was just for fun… and well, the rest is history. Our first year together was full of little adventures close to home and plenty of time spent with family and friends. Then came four years of long distance — which definitely had its challenges, but also brought lots of fun trips to visit each other and countless unforgettable memories. The distance wasn’t always easy, but it made our relationship stronger and our love even deeper. In the last year, we decided we’ve had enough of long distance. Maddy made the move to Holland to play volleyball and support Luuk in his farming career. This past year has been incredibly special, and we’re so excited to start our lives together back in the US. Luuk always said that if there was one person in Lynden who was marriage material, it was Maddy Weg. Turns out, he was right — and now we’re ready to spend forever together.

The Proposal

December 31, 2024

We’ve had countless adventures overseas, but our proposal has to be one of our favorites. On our second day of our New Years Scotland trip, we decided the weather was “nice enough” to hike up to the Old Man of Storr on the Isle of Skye. Little did we know, the weather had other plans. As we neared the top, the wind picked up and the rain started coming down sideways. But Luuk had his mind made up — this was the moment. In the middle of the storm, he got down on one knee and proposed. Could Maddy hear anything he was saying? Not really. Did she know what was happening? Absolutely. And of course, she said yes! December winds and rain didn’t make things easy — Maddy’s fingers were so cold and swollen it took a solid 2 minutes to get the ring on. Luckily, a kind couple at the top captured the moment on video and snapped a few photos for us. We raced down the trail (trying not to blow away!) and spent the rest of the day soaking in the magic: warming up at a local pub in Portree, then heading to Inverness for a New Year’s Eve celebration with dinner, champagne, and some traditional but extremely entertaining Scottish music. As Maddy says, it’s her favorite New Year’s Eve to date!

The Wedding

July 31, 2026 & August 1, 2026

We are so excited to celebrate with our friends and family! Our wedding day will be a little unique. On July 31, we’ll head out to the San Juan Islands for our ceremony with our immediate family only. We want to keep this part simple and intimate, focusing on the love we have for each other. That’s why we’ve chosen this private setting for our vows. Then, on August 1, it’s time to party with all of our loved ones at the reception! There will be drinks, dinner, dessert, thoughtful little details to make the night feel special, speeches, and of course, lots of dancing. We truly appreciate everyone understanding our vision for our wedding and are so thankful to all of you for the roles you’ve played in our lives. We can’t wait to celebrate, laugh, and make memories with you!
