How Our Relationship Came To Be

Our journey began during our time at Indiana University East's nursing program. Though we knew of each other before, it wasn't until our final year that we truly connected. Both of us signed up for a nursing trip to Alaska in October 2022, not expecting much. However, that trip turned out to be the start of something special. When we returned, the memories of Alaska stayed with us, bringing us closer together. Our friendship grew as we spent more time together, and before we knew it, we realized there was something deeper between us. After graduating with our nursing degrees, we were fortunate enough to find jobs at the same hospital in Hamilton, Ohio, in the summer of 2023. Excited to start our lives together, we decided to take the next step and purchase a home together, with our beloved dog, Poncho. Our family expanded when we welcomed another furry member, our sweet dog Maelynn, in January 2024. Now, filled with love and gratitude, we're ready to take the next step in our journey. We're excited to exchange vows and begin this new chapter as husband and wife.

The Proposal

It was my birthday, May 31st, and I had a feeling something special was in the air all day long. Josh had plans for us to take photos with our dogs, Poncho and Maelynn, at the park. I secretly hoped he would propose there, but it didn’t happen. Later, he surprised me with dinner plans at a fancy restaurant. We had his parents watch Poncho, who hadn't been feeling well lately, so we could enjoy our evening. After a wonderful meal at Jeff Ruby’s, I started to think maybe he would propose there, but he didn’t. Feeling a bit disappointed, we headed home. On the way, I checked our home camera to see how Poncho was doing and noticed something unexpected – Josh’s sister was at our house! When I questioned Josh, he seemed as surprised as I was, which made me suspect something was up. Maybe he planned to propose at home? When we arrived, I was stunned to find rose petals, tea candles, and a red carpet leading me to the kitchen, where a marquee sign lit up with "Marry Me," surrounded by balloons and flowers. I turned around in shock, and there was Josh, down on one knee. It was a beautiful moment of excitement and joy. His family had been secretly hiding in the basement, and as soon as I said yes, our dogs came out wearing adorable "Marry Me" bandanas, followed by his family to congratulate us. Later, Josh confessed that he hadn't been nervous all day—until the moment we stepped out of the restaurant. His calm demeanor shifted, especially noticeable when I checked the home camera footage. He appeared composed, yet I sensed unease as his clammy hands and unexplained nervousness hinted at his underlying anticipation. His nerves gave him away, but I wouldn’t have had it any other way – his proposal was perfect, filled with surprises and love.
