We first met in our middle school connections class. Josh presumably didn't make a good first impression, as Madi signed his yearbook, "The girl you creep on in connections". We dated briefly our junior year of high school (lovingly referred to as "Round 1"), but broke up shortly before the summer. After some prompting from Nancy, we reconnected the summer before college and decided to give it another go. After four years of Josh making the four-hour drive from UW Stevens Point every other weekend, we were able to finally end the long distance when COVID hit. We soon realized we had waited long enough and Josh popped the question!
Like many others, we resorted to neighborhood walks this past Spring for any excuse to get out of the house. On a Tuesday evening before dinner, Josh, Madison, and Nancy went our usual route, which has a trail leading to a boardwalk on a pond. Once at the pond, Josh pointed to the water to get Madi to look in and Nancy fell behind. Madi didn't see what he was looking for, so she looked back up. There Josh was on one knee, bravely holding the ring above the slats in the boardwalk. Josh was stealthy enough to have Nancy record the whole thing on video. The engagement brought us and our families so much joy during an otherwise difficult period. We are so thrilled to be getting married and can't wait to see what else life has in store for us!
