Linville, North Carolina, high in the Blue Ridge Mountains, has been a vacation destination since the 1800’s and is appreciated to this day for its beauty and cool summer weather. Faulkner, following in his mother's footsteps, spent many summers in Linville at Grandfather Golf and Country Club. He learned to swing a golf club there, spent time casting a dry fly on local trout streams, swimming in/across the lake and hanging out at the beach. His family spent many July 4th celebrations at the beach pavilion picnic - huddled under blankets against the cool night air watching fireworks. His grandfather was the Club’s first golf professional and later as a member maintained a summer residence there. Some of Faulkner’s favorite activities as a young child were Tweetsie Railroad, the Mile High Swinging Bridge on top of Grandfather Mountain and local gem mining. Grandfather has been a special part of our family’s history.
