Maddie and Damian met while attending the University of Minnesota Duluth. For their first date, Damian surprised Maddie by taking her out to dinner on his birthday (without telling her!). They instantly clicked over the many things they shared in common, from their values and beliefs to their hobbies and interests. By the end of that first date, they knew they had something very special.

Damian planned a trip to Yosemite National Park in August. On their first day touring the park, Damian took Maddie out to a secluded meadow that featured a stunning view of El Capitán. While Maddie was admiring the breathtaking scenery, Damian got down on one knee and asked her to marry him. Following lots of happy tears, hugs, and laughs, they jumped in the Merced river in celebration. It was the happiest day of their lives!
