How We Met

First comes school, Then comes marriage

Our story begins in the 7th grade. I (Madi) posted a TBH (to be honest) on Instagram with the thought of only one person that I wanted to like it. Lo and behold, he (Gunner) did. I said “to be honest, I think you’re cool.” Needless to say, I froze under pressure. However, we started to Snapchat each other. One thing led to another, and he asked me to be his girlfriend on December 24, 2015. I think it took us both at least a month before we told our families. I knew from the beginning that this relationship didn’t feel like a fleeing moment. But rather, something that would last forever. Our first couple of years were very awkward, granted that we were 13 and 14. To hang out, we needed either our parents or older siblings to drop us off and pick us up. We spent all of our high school days together, gradually becoming less awkward with every passing year. We spent classes together, lunches together, and occasionally after school hours together. We were both heavily involved in sports so around basketball and baseball/softball season we were trying our best to support one another in the stands. The high school years are some of my favorite to look back on. We were crowned Mr. and Miss Basketball, prom King and Queen, and voted most athletic. Once we graduated high school, we both attended Lindsey Wilson with the hopes of becoming travel nurses together. Reality check. We both soon found out that nursing was not what we wanted to do. I eventually found out that I wanted to pursue a biology degree (after 3-4 tries) and Gunner transferred to SkyCTC to soon become a Rad-Tech. September 30, 2025, was the big day when he asked me to marry him. Everyone says “it was the easiest yes I’ve ever made,” but I knew I wanted to marry Gunner in the 8th grade. I knew he was different. I knew I never wanted to let go of him. When we both think of our relationship, obviously we are each others best friend and we love each other so much. But it goes beyond that. I think Gunner describes it perfectly, when he told me one day,” I think of you as family.” We are each others family. As we come together as one, we will become our own family. A family and companionship that God has blessed us with. It goes without saying that none of this would be possible without Jesus Christ. The blood He shed and the love He has applied to both mine and Gunner's life makes this marriage possible. And next to God is our family. Without them, their support, and their gas mileage taking us from place to place, Gunner and I would not be the people we are today. Thank you to our families for supporting us. We can’t wait to see everyone on our big day.
