A visit to Columbia or the University of South Carolina isn't complete without a glimpse of the historic Horseshoe. From the time the university was established in 1801, only 12 buildings have helped create the well-known U-shaped layout that now makes the best place to picnic, walk, take in history, and get a glimpse of student life at the University. Having attended USC ourselves, this location will always hold a special place in our hearts.
Riverbanks Zoo and Garden is home to more than 2,000 magnificent and fascinating animals and one of the nation’s most beautiful and inspiring botanical gardens. The site features dynamic natural habitat exhibits, scenic river views, spectacular valley overlooks and significant historic landmarks.
Strategically centered in downtown Columbia, the South Carolina State House is the seat of state government in South Carolina. The State House is home to the Governor's office, as well as the House and Senate chambers. There are guided tours available, or you can simply walk the grounds to take in the beauty and history.
