How We Met

Fall 2012

Balon and I had a class together sophomore year of high school, but we didn't talk until we went to a weekend camp. Two of our friends started talking and then Balon asked me to go on a zip line. I agreed, but pretended like I was nervous (I still don't know why I did that). After that weekend, we talked in class more and Balon decided to wrestle for Milton, so he could hang out with his favorite wrestling trainer (me). Right before winter break, we walked to our first 'date' at a local restaurant. - Madi Well, we met in a hot tub at camp. I didn't know much at 15, but there in that hot tub, I knew I had to talk to this girl. We spent most of the day doing camp stuff together. After that, we started talking more in the few classes we had together. Later in the year when I decided to join the wrestling team, it turned out Madi was a trainer. She got to see me in a singlet a bunch, which probably sealed the deal. - Balon

How Balon Asked Out Madi

January 2013

A few months after we started 'dating,' Balon came over after school one day and asked me out. We don't remember which date it was exactly - it was either 1/30/2013 or 1/31/2013. Now, we just celebrate both days. - Madi I asked Madi out in her basement. It really wasn't all that romantic, who would have known what it would turn into. We aren't sure if it happened on the 30th or 31st of January, so for all our anniversaries since, we've just celebrated on whichever day is more convenient. - Balon

Moving In

May 2019

Once I was accepted into Augusta University for grad school, we started looking into apartments. A few months later, Balon lost a bet in our bowling class, so he had to plan a fun date for us! Balon decided to take me to Augusta on a day trip to check out our new city! We spent the day exploring and decided on an apartment. In May, we finally moved in together after dating for over 6 years. I really don't know if I could get through grad school without Balon. - Madi Moving from the 3rd floor of one building to the 3rd floor of another building a hundred miles away was an ordeal to say the least. Now we live in Augusta where she's doing school and I'm working from home. The transition to living with each other went better than I could have possibly hoped for. I'm so happy we live together, and I look forward to doing it for another 70 years (give or take). - Balon

The Proposal

December 30th, 2019

For New Years, we decided to visit Asheville, NC. I kind of knew the proposal was coming (ok, I totally knew) but I was in suspense for weeks - Balon thinks I was trying to 'fish' for information, but I really just wanted to make sure I had my nails done. On 12/30/19, we had plans to visit the Biltmore Estate! I was a little suspicious after Balon wouldn't let me hold his jacket when driving to the Biltmore, but I didn't want to get my hopes up. When we got there, his plans were almost exposed when Biltmore Security picked him for a random search. Once we got on property, Balon asked if I wanted to see the Gardens and I agreed. Balon proposed in an isolated part of the Gardens and it was perfect. - Madi So Madi had been bugging me about proposing for MONTHS. She knew it was coming, I had told her it was, but Madi looks up spoilers to movies while we are watching them. Needless to say, she was impatiently persistent in her attempts to fish the details out of me. I suppose it didn't help that I was only giving the most vague answers. Funny thing is that when I got the ring, I left the box in plain sight on my desk, she never noticed. Anyways, my plan was always to propose on a vacation, so when we went to Asheville in December, I knew I had to do it at the very classy Biltmore house. So we walked through the garden while I was trying to spot locations I looked into ahead of time. Then we get to this lake, and there was a little bridge going along the backside. That was the spot. I honestly don't remember what I said, she said yes though, so whatever it was it worked. - Balon
