Not long after they began dating, their relationship was put to the test as they entered a season of long distance. Madeline was serving as a missionary with NET Ministries in Minnesota, while Zach was pursuing his career as a turbine mechanic. Separated by miles and busy schedules, their first year together required sacrifice, patience, and a deep level of trust. During this time, they learned how to rely not only on each other, but fully on the Lord—placing their relationship in His hands and allowing Him to guide their hearts. Through countless phone calls, prayers, and visits, their love grew stronger and more intentional. As Madeline continued to live out her faith through missionary work, Zach found himself drawn more deeply into the Catholic faith she loved so dearly. What began as curiosity turned into conviction, and through prayer and discernment, Zach fell in love with the faith and ultimately decided to become Catholic himself. Their shared faith became the foundation of their relationship, shaping the way they loved, communicated, and dreamed about their future together. That future became even more real during a trip to Italy, where Zach proposed to Madeline in the breathtaking beauty of Rome at the Villa Borghese—a moment filled with joy, gratitude, and awe for all God had done in their story.
