Yama and Madeline were both attending UCSB when they met. Yama rented out a room for the summer on Craigslist, and it just so happened to be with a friend of Madeline’s. Yama pursued Madeline, but she thought he was just a smooth talker. Yama finally won, landing a date with the line, “When are you gonna let me take you to the Olive Garden.” Yama swept Madeline off her feet on the first date (not at the Olive Garden). He still looks at her and smiles the same way he did on the day they met. She still blushes like its the first date. Thank you Craigslist.

On the second day of a seven-day stay on Maui... Madeline's family are playing games and barbequing. Yama asks Madeline to go for a walk on the beach because he has something important to tell her. He starts with a story about disappointing her and her stomach drops. Then he surprises her with a twist in it... He had asked her dad for her hand in marriage. As the sun is setting he puts a ring on her finger and the family comes running out to celebrate. What started with a perfect first date, continued with a perfect proposal!
