Norell and I met in 2015 BC (before covid) at our sacred spot Off The Record in Deep Ellum. He was the handsome & tall bartender who served me many don julio's while I bought records and danced with my friends. I mistakenly called him Merrill but he was too nice to correct me or couldn't hear what I said over the loud music. After frequenting Off The Record for a few months Norell had finally asked me if I was engaged as he heard a rumor from a coworker. She had mistaken me for my sister who was engaged at the time. I quickly said "No I am suuuper single" and he had the brightest smile. He got off of work early that night and I left my friends after a show at Club DaDa next door to go have a drink with him down the street at Twilite Lounge. We both remember listening to the track "Wonder Where We Land" at the end of the night. It was the sweetest moment.
We were headed to our favorite watering hole Cosmos for a date night with our close friends John & Christa. I greeted Christa and asked where John was. She mentioned he was on the back patio taking a phone call. I noticed a sign on the patio door that said it was closed for maintenance- sorry. I figured that's weird the sign says it was closed. Norell went outside to go meet John while Christa and I caught up on all the things. I was a little too chatty that night and she stopped me to say let's go see what the boys are doing outside. I opened the back door and saw handsome Norell just glowing as he stood at the end of this beautiful candle-lit aisle covered in rose petals. I never thought I would see Cosmo's patio seem so romantic. I immediately asked "NORELL what are you doing!?" and my eyes began to water. I walked towards him and he dropped down on one knee and now we both can't remember what words were exchanged. We were elated to celebrate our engagement with our friends so we went inside and I was surprised with our closest 35 friends. I was shocked. Norell had secretly been planning this for months alongside my best friends Audrey and Linnea, so sneaky. This was such a sweet surprise and we felt so much love and warmth by all of our loved ones. This was the greatest day.
