Madeline and Geni met on Geni’s birthday—September 19—a day that quietly became the beginning of everything. Their first date didn’t go as planned—Ginger & Spice was closed—but Panera Bread on Brown Street ended up being exactly where they were meant to be. Not long after, on October 28, 2020, they made it official. In a year defined by distance and uncertainty, they found closeness and comfort in each other. Whether it was a peaceful trip to Siesta Key or the everyday moments in between, their bond only grew stronger. Madeline stood faithfully on the sidelines at every match, offering unwavering support, while Geni was just as present—encouraging her through the long, demanding days of nursing school. After graduation and being drafted, Geni knew it was time to take the next step—to build a life together, not just dream about it. What began unexpectedly had grown into something steady, resilient, and deeply meaningful—a love shaped by patience, support, and shared purpose. In the midst of building their future, an unexpected challenge arose—Geni faced complications with his visa that could have forced him to return to South Africa, with no certainty of coming back to the United States. Having been together since their freshman year, they had always envisioned marriage in the years ahead, but life asked them to decide sooner. Determined to protect the life they had built, Geni asked for Madeline’s father’s blessing, and on Thursday, January 30, 2025, they were married in a simple, unforgettable ceremony at the Hamilton County Courthouse. Today, Madeline and Geni happily share their life together in Madison, Wisconsin with their dog, Lionel. Madeline has achieved a major milestone, earning her first position as a nurse at SSM Health St. Mary's Hospital, while Geni continues his journey on the field playing for Forward Madison FC—both pursuing their dreams side by side. Now that they have settled into this new chapter, they are excited to finally celebrate their love with a larger wedding, surrounded by all of their family and friends.
