Lauren has been the unwavering backbone through so many chapters of my life. Whether it was helping me strap a mattress to the roof of a rental van and driving cross-country to live with her, or the countless times she’s come to my aid in moments of panic, even when I called her in a drunken state, she's always been there. She offers wisdom, love, and support just when I need it most, and I’m forever grateful for her presence in my life. She’s also the most incredible aunt to our son, Juni—always showing up with so much love and care. Watching her with him is a constant reminder of how lucky we are to have her in our lives. Lauren, thank you for being there in every way we could ever dream of. I couldn’t imagine walking down the aisle without you by my side. Julie and I have known each other since kindergarten, but it was in our late teens and early twenties that our bond truly blossomed into something extraordinary. Those countless road trips to Toronto during the summers of 2013–2015? Pure chaos and laughter, playlists, and occasionally questionable navigation skills. We were young, reckless, and determined to soak up every moment—and we did just that. We truly made the most out of our early twenties together, whether it was traveling to new places, dancing the nights away, or embracing every adventure life threw at us. Those carefree days shaped so much of who I am, and I can’t imagine them without you by my side. Since then, we’ve grown together through every phase of life: from carefree nights to engagements, motherhood, and now this. Through it all, your kindness has been a constant, your wisdom (especially on mom-life) has been invaluable, and your friendship has been a treasure I’ll always hold dear. As I approach one of the most significant days of my life, I couldn’t imagine a better man standing by my side than Derrick. Not only is he my cousin, but he’s also been a steadfast presence in my life since my preteen years. Derrick embodies the true qualities of a head of household: he is a devoted husband, a loving father, and an adoring grandfather. His resilience in the face of life’s challenges is nothing short of inspiring, and his relentless determination is unmatched. I can only hope to follow his example and strive to be for my family what he has been for all of us for so many years. Of course, I’d be remiss not to mention that Derrick is an avid Duke Blue Devil fan—proof that even the best among us aren’t perfect! 😊

There’s a saying that you meet your lifelong friends in college, and I’m lucky to say that’s absolutely true. Kenny "Pretty Boy" Malloy, one of the original members of our legendary friend group, the Bunz Boys (because we were all culinary students... just kidding!), has remained a constant in my life. Despite the distance and the twists and turns of our individual journeys, Kenny has always poured into our friendship with unwavering loyalty. Our story began back in 2008, when weekends kicked off on Wednesday nights at Rumors nightclub at ECU. Over the years, our bond has grown and matured well beyond those nights into the lives we’ve built as adults. You’ll know Kenny when you see him—rocking Chelsea boots, skinny jeans, and striking his signature “light skin pose.” Who would’ve thought that when I moved to Chicago, you’d visit and end up meeting your future wife? Here’s to the memories we’ve shared and the ones waiting for us on couples’ vacations in the near future. Cheers, my friend!

Carrie is the true definition of "chosen family." As one of my best friends, we've been through it all—far more than I could fit into this short post (though I’m sure a few highlights will make it into her officiant script, haha). I’ll never forget my first visit to Chicago with Carrie. During that trip, I told her I’d live here one day, and now, seven years later, this city feels like home. It was during one of Carrie and her husband Kevin’s visits to Chicago that they first met Madeline. Our relationship was still new, but Carrie could immediately sense our connection. She didn’t hesitate to tell me she knew my days on Hinge were officially over. Carrie’s family is our family, and vice versa. I’ve cherished watching us grow—from late nights in Uptown Charlotte to thriving in both our professional and personal lives. Thank you, Carrie, for the countless memories and for playing such a meaningful role in one of the best days of our lives.

The hardest part about leaving North Carolina seven years ago was saying goodbye to my village. We all crave connection and community, and as I grew to know Don, I knew I was going to be okay. At first, our friendship was casual—we shared mutual friends—but as we continued to invest in each other, it became clear that in Don, I had found a brother. He’s someone who understands my background, we share a drive to excel not just for ourselves but for those we hold dear, he challenges me intellectually, and always prioritizes our bond. I’ll admit, before meeting Don, I didn’t even know Black people really lived in Minnesota, lol. But what I admire most is his unapologetic Blackness—a quality that deserves nothing but respect. Salute to you, King. Oh, and for the record, I’ll always be better than you at pool.

Desperate Devin – Devin earned this nickname for how his standards seemed to... loosen up after a few drinks at the bar. One more shot, and everyone’s a 10, right, Dev? But Devin is living proof that age brings wisdom, strength, and discernment. At first glance, he might still resemble that kid whose parents drove down to Panama City to pick him up early from Spring Break—because he lied about where we were headed (classic, Devin). Beneath the laughs and memories, though, lies someone with depth, unwavering loyalty, and a love for the people he holds dear—a love that extends far beyond his less-than-average wingspan. Devin is married to an incredible woman, Cat, who not only adores him but stands firmly by his side. He’s accomplished more than most could dream: completing an Ironman, multiple marathons (including the Chicago Marathon), and building passive wealth in real estate. Devin, you’re an amazing friend, and I’m so grateful for you. Love you, bro.

Salt & Pepper. No, I’m not talking about condiments or the iconic ‘90s hip-hop duo—that was the nickname for Adam and me during our legendary four-year reign over downtown Charlotte. Rumor has it the Epicentre shut down because of us! From South End to the end of time, Adam Michael Lynch has been my ride-or-die. He had the stitches to prove it, lol. He's just as thoughtful as he is likely to hand you a Vegas Bomb. He’s also impossible to miss—the looks of Superman, the style of Iron Man, and the swagger of Vince McMahon (before he got in trouble). $5 for anyone who can keep up with Adam on the dance floor. As well-loved as the classic song inspired by the state where Adam went to college, I can guarantee that at some point during the reception, we’ll all be belting out: 🎶 "Country roads, take me home, to the place I belong!" 🎶

My Blood Brother Andrew and I didn’t have the typical sibling rivalry growing up—lucky for him, considering I’ve got those extra four inches on him! Raised in different states—Andrew in New York with his mom, and me in North Carolina—we didn’t have the conventional upbringing together. But despite that, I’m incredibly blessed to have him as my big brother. Let’s take a moment to celebrate Andrew! After blessing the world with three brilliant, beautiful daughters, he’s finally welcoming a son in 2025. We knew you had it in you, man! Growing up, Andrew dreamed of being an NBA star. Unfortunately, he has the lower extremities of a 65 year old, leaving him injured more often than on the amateur courts. But it turns out, Andrew’s true calling is even more honorable. He proudly serves in the U.S. Military, dedicating himself to a purpose much greater than basketball. #Salute Together, we’re breaking generational curses, setting new standards, and living life to the fullest every step of the way. Love you, bro.

Juni Jackson is the brightest light in our lives, radiating joy wherever he goes. He is truly the greatest blessing we've ever received. He has challenged and inspired us in ways we never imagined. Becoming parents was both a thrilling and daunting journey, but Juni has filled our hearts with purpose and meaning. Our dinosaur-loving, car-obsessed, snack-king son is a gift beyond measure, and we are forever grateful for him. We are so lucky to have him follow alongside our journey hand in hand.
