Flight

Denver International Airport

DEN is the closest airport to Boulder (45-60 minute drive), and you'll be able to reach the town by public bus ($10), rental car, or Uber (~$100). More details below on your options between rental cars, public transit, and ubers!

Travel Note

Rental Car vs. Public Transit vs. Uber

Rental Car If you plan on going deeper into the mountains to hike, driving to another town, or just don't feel like navigating public transit, definitely rent a car. While there is public transit to get to Estes Park, Rocky Mountain National Park, Gold Hill, and other mountain towns, it can take a long time to navigate those. So if you want to hike or just see another town, we suggest renting a car. — Public Transit If you don't plan on leaving the city limits of Boulder and just want to hike in Chataqua or other local trails, you can most definitely rely on public transit. The public transit in Boulder is all by bus. You can get pretty much anywhere you need to by bus, including the mountains closest to Boulder and some trailheads along the way. If there's somewhere in Boulder that public transit won't take you, then Ubers are usually cheap to supplement. — Uber If you don't want to rent a car but hate public transit, Uber is usually anywhere from $10-$20 to get within the city limits of Boulder. BUT September 12 is a CU gameday so Ubers will be more expensive before and after the game. Also, Ubering to and and from the airport can be expensive (think $100-150), so we recommend taking public transit for $10 (see below for details). — Bike/Scooters You can use public bikes at "BCycle" stations to navigate the city, or use Lime Scooters. Please be careful using the bike paths since there are some speed demons out there (not Jon, he's slow).

Train

Airport to Boulder Public Transit (Public RTD Bus)

AB1 Bus — Airport to Boulder/Boulder to Airport To reach Boulder by public transit, go to the southern exit of the airport on the baggage claim level (where the airport hotel is). Go out the doors, down the escalator, to the left at the bottom of the escalator and you'll see where the AB1 bus terminal is (Gate 8). The AB1 timetable is linked here. Select Westbound if you're going to Boulder and Eastbound if you're heading back to the airport. To purchase tickets, download the RTD MYRIDE app. Select "Buy Tickets", then select "Standard", then select "Airport Day Pass." The bus driver will put all of your bags below the bus for you. Look for prairie dogs along the highway while you drive through the plains!
