We highly recommended making time on your visit here to go to the preserve. Climbing: If you want to go climbing and do not know where to start, hire a guide with Alpine Endeavors. Biking: For a great ride, park at West Trapps (or Minnewaska for a shorter loop) and cycle the Castle Point and Hamilton Point carriage roads. Swimming: Check out Split Rock, a scenic swimming hole at the Coxing Trailhead. Hiking: For adventurous hikes, try the Lemon Squeeze scramble up to Sky Top Tower, the peaceful Undivided Lot Trail, or hike to "Lost City" via the High Peterskill Trail. There are also carriage road walks directly beneath the "Trapps" cliff which provide a head turning view. Less Crowded Areas: For "quietude" , start at Spring Farm Trailhead and do the Bonticou Crag Scramble—you can see our house from the top!
Food: Our favorites include The Parish, Hokkaido, The Mountain Brauhaus, Water Street Market, and Full Circle Market. Drink: Check out Dry Fly Coffee, Tuthilltown or Coppersea Distilleries, Whitecliff Winery, and Arrowood Brewery (Accord) for local coffee, spirits, wine, and beer. Other Activities: Historic Huguenot Street, Skydiving at Skydive the Ranch, walking or biking on the Walkill Valley Rail Trail, and Tweefontein or local farms for fresh produce or herbs.
Minnewaska State Park: Minnewaska offers cliffside views, mutiple 100ft+ waterfalls, and Sam’s Point Ice Caves. For those looking for an easy stroll, the Lake Minnewaska loop is a good option. Mohonk Mountain House: A 19th century castle with 260+ rooms and offers day access to their gardens, scenic trails, and the Sky Top Tower, which is where we got engaged! They also have fantastic food.
