Show us your best colorful, semi-formal attire that lends itself to a dreamy night canal side with drunk grandma vibes. Weather permitting, ceremony and reception will be a blend of outdoor & indoor. The outdoor portion is set on loose gravel, please wear appropriate shoes for it. Please dress appropriately for Michigan surprises!
While we have not reserved any blocks of hotels, there are plenty of great choices in the area: 1. The Detroit Marriot at the Renaissance Center (https://www.marriott.com/en-us/hotels/dtwdt-detroit-marriott-at-the-renaissance-center/overview/?scid=f2ae0541-1279-4f24-b197-a979c79310b0) 2.Fort Pontchartrain: A Wyndham Hotel (https://fpwyndham.com) 3.Trumbull and Porter Hotel (https://www.trumbullandporterhotel.com) All hotels are about twenty minutes from Coriander and all great choices. If a hotel isn't quite your speed, Airbnb and VRBO have plenty of homes to rent. If you have any questions about a location, please feel free to reach out to Maddie & Robbie.
If you are anything like us, parking is a forethought in almost every situation! Thankfully, Coriander has plenty of space at or around the venue! You will find spaces on the streetside, the marina lot next door, and a lot just over the bridge for the public park(easily walkable). We kindly ask that you save the spaces in the parking lot directly in front of Coriander for those attending with limited mobility.
For those of you who may be new to the Detroit area, we wanted to jot down our favorite, most treasured places in the area. We hope you make a weekend out of it! Batch Brewing in Corktown: Local staple with a great atmosphere, beer, cocktails and delicious house made food. Highly recommend anything coming off the Yellow Dog BBQ food truck (the owners side hussle/passion project). Alpino in Corktown: Not much to say other than, you will regret not going. And always say yes to the Spatzle. Reservations encouraged by the restaurant! Ima Izakaya in Corktown: Where to begin. Cocktails on point but go for the amazing food unlike any other. Feeling comfort food inspired by Japanese and Pan-Asian influences, mix in some Korean and Vietnamese flavors and you have the best meal. Highly recommend the Ramen! Grey Ghost in Midtown: Warm and inviting chophouse with arguably the best burger around. Walkable to majority of Midtown locations. Rocco’s Deli in Midtown: Hands down the best Italian deli in the area. True deli style sandwiches with house made sauces and fresh ingredients. They also have an in-store shopping and a full bar. Robbie’s top pick is the Corner Deli and Maddie’s depends on the day but is always between the Il Rocco or Chicken Parm. Warda Patisserie in Midtown: A James Beard Award winning patisserie that has stolen our hearts as the best place for a morning treat. The Maritozzi buns are what dreams are made of and you can usually snag them around 9am. Baked fresh of course! Castalia at Sfumato in Midtown: A true hidden gem. Think perfumery by day, cocktail bar by night. Located in the lower level of a building, Castalia is a quaint, personalized experience that always leaves you wanting more. Eastern Market Brewing in the Eastern Market District: Grab yourself a Supino’s Pizza and walk over to EMB for great beer and a true Detroit atmosphere. Think gorgeous wall graffiti adorning the narrow streets all done by local artists.
Belle Ise Park: An island park located just outside downtown that delivers magnificent views of the river and the Canadian border. It's home to the James Scott Memorial Fountain, the Anna Scripps Whitcomb Conservatory, and the Belle Isle Aquarium to name a few! Detroit Institute of Art: Spend the day immersed in art and culture from around the world. Definitely a need to see! Detroit Zoo: Located just outside downtown Pleasant Ridge and Royal Oak, the Detroit Zoo can be a great afternoon outdoors to stretch the legs. Plenty of food vendors located within the Zoo as well. Bonus points if you find the turtle that lives outside its exhibit! Detroit Urban Artifacts: One of Maddie’s favorites. Shocking! This antique/oddity store is nestled in the old Russell Industrial Building and are only open certain days. If you go, don’t be shocked by the outside or even the hallway to get in. It is worth the trip. Happy hunting! Motown Museum: See what Detroit is truly all about and dive into the legacy that is “Motown Detroit”. Polish Arts Center: Located in historic Hamtramck, this staple store is home to thousands of handmade polish pottery, jewelry, art and more! Easy walk down to Srodeks sausage/polish grocery store and New Palace Bakery (famous for their Paczki). Eastern Market: Arguably the best outdoor market around that includes fresh produce from local famers, pop up artists and crafters, bakeries and coffee shops, food trucks and restaurants all housed under “one roof” with the shed of Eastern Market. Our recommendation is to go early and walk the aisles picking up breakfast and coffee as you stroll. There are plenty more places to recommend! Don’t see any in your area or staying outside Detroit Proper? No problem, reach out to us and we can help steer you to great spots closer to where you are staying. The list will be endless if we dive into the surrounding areas like Royal Oak, Ferndale, Oak Park, etc.
