Axel and Maura knew one another while attending Allegheny College in Meadville, Pennsylvania as both were on the college’s soccer teams. However, the two didn’t become close friends until April 2019 while they were both living in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. By August of the same year, Axel and Maura began dating. In their first couple of years together, Axel frequently visited Maura in Washington, D.C. during her summer internships and final semester of graduate school, endured her crazy Halloween costumes and themed parties, and indulged her in endless coffee and croissant dates at her favorite cafés. Maura visited Axel’s hometown of El Paso, Texas and discovered the magnificence of menudo and tamales. Maura would also become a Liverpool FC (Mohammad Salah) fan like Axel and become his (albeit horrible) tennis partner. Luckily, Axel is a great coach. Through the years, Axel and Maura have become everything to one another and have loved every moment. They’ve shared apartments, travelled internationally, spent nights camping together, hosted Sunday HBO-release watch parties and Friday pasta nights, lost countless croquet games, and have co-parented and spoiled their incredible Pembroke Welsh Corgi, Remi. Remi accompanies the couple on many of their adventures together. After a perfect beach day and several lobster rolls, Axel proposed to Maura in June 2024 at the Point Judith Lighthouse in Narragansett, Rhode Island during sunset. The couple was in the presence of two of their best friends, Maura’s cousin, James, and his wife, Cait. Following their engagement, the couple embarked on their next adventure and moved to Dallas, Texas.
We are so excited for the beginning of our next chapter and can’t wait to start it on our wedding day with our closest friends and family in Mérida, Mexico. We visited Mérida shortly after our engagement and immediately knew it’d be our wedding destination. While we hope you can join us for our big day, we completely understand that international travel can be difficult. Please let us know as soon as you are able if you know you will be unable to attend.
