Maddy and Trecen are high school sweethearts. The first time they met was at Rockhurst homecoming in 2012 when Maddy and Trecen were in the same homecoming group. She went with one of his friends from...chess club. Maddy thought Trecen was the most obnoxious human on the planet because what 15 year old boy isn't? Who knew that a year later, they'd meet again, this time in the same circle of friends, to start what would be an 8 year long journey to this day that you are joining them to celebrate.

If you know Maddy, you know and understand her passion for all things Gordon Ramsay, so when Trecen said he'd made a reservation for HIS birthday at Gordon Ramsay Steak KC, Maddy was suspicious. Mostly because the reservation was on March 20th, and Trecen's birthday is on March 10th. Also, who makes their own birthday dinner reservation at a restaurant that was made for his lady to go to?? March 20th rolls around, and they both know the jig is up. Trecen suggests stopping by Kauffman Gardens on the way to the restaurant. Maddy had been constantly talking about going there when all the spring flowers bloomed (good listening, Trecen!). The two wandered the gardens and parked themselves on a bench mere FEET from the graves of Ewing and Muriel Kauffman (founding members of the KC Royals). Trecen had no speech prepared, but tried his darnedest before Maddy put an end to his misery saying, "abso-freaking-lutely I will marry you!". Tension free and breathing again, they celebrated over beef wellington and lobster risotto.
