Four years ago, both Maddy and Shane booked solo ski trips out west. Neither minded going alone - the mountains were calling, and that was enough. By chance, they both ended up at The Bivvi Hostel in Breckenridge, a spot known for its big fireplace, good vibes, and an awesome location close to the mountain and downtown. One morning, a group from the hostel decided to head to Vail. Shane offered to drive. Maddy had planned a rest day, but after some encouragement from the group (and a breakfast delay that gave her just enough time to change her mind), she threw on her gear and joined at the last minute. It turned out that out of the six people on the trip, Maddy and Shane were the only skiers. Which meant a lot of time together waiting for the snowboarders to catch up, chatting on the lifts, and realizing they had more in common than just a love for fresh snow. Two days later, Shane asked Maddy to dinner. It happened to be Valentine’s Day, though neither of them realized how fitting that would be. From a single ski day to a lifetime of love - their best run has only just begun.
We chose Breckenridge because it has such a special place in our hearts. It’s where we first met, where we got engaged, and now, full circle - it’s where we’ll say “I do.” Sharing this mountain town with the people we love most feels like the perfect way to celebrate. Things to Know Before You Go Breckenridge sits at 9,600 feet above sea level, which means thinner air and a higher chance of feeling the effects of altitude. To help adjust we recommend you hydrate often - drink more water than you normally would. Take it slow on your first day. Even walking up stairs can feel tougher than usual. If you’re especially sensitive, you may want to ask your doctor about altitude medication before traveling. Extra Tips Even in late summer, mountain weather changes fast - pack layers for sunny days, chilly evenings, and the chance of a quick afternoon rain shower.
The closest major airport is Denver International Airport (DIA), about a 2-hour scenic drive to Breckenridge. You can also fly into Colorado Springs Airport (COS) for about a 2.5 hr drive Shuttles and Car Rentals Several shuttle services run directly from DIA to Breckenridge hotels. This is the easiest option if you don’t plan to rent a car. If you want flexibility to explore the mountains or nearby towns, renting a car is a great option. Local Transportation Once in town, Breck is very walkable. The free shuttle bus system runs throughout town and up to the ski base areas. Uber and Lyft also work, though availability can be more limited late at night. Venue Note: We don’t recommend walking to the wedding venue if you are staying near main street, it looks like a short walk, but its uphill.
We have arranged a room block at a discounted rate for our guests. We strongly encourage booking early. Hotels, Airbnbs, and rentals fill up quickly and prices climb as the date approaches. More information on the Travel tab!
