Maddy and John’s story began with a pizza date at 3:00 in the morning. Both Maddy and John attended UNC-Chapel Hill and lived across the hall from each other in Granville South Tower their freshman year. Although they lived only 15 feet apart, it took almost six months before they started talking to each other – and Maddy made the first move. On March 10, 2017 at 2:35am, Maddy, who could not wait to get John’s phone number, messaged him on GroupMe and asked him to bring her pizza. During freshman year, John spent many late nights at Benny’s Pizza on Franklin Street and was conveniently already in line when he received Maddy’s message. He brought two extra large slices of cheese to the 5th floor study lounge, and this is where they enjoyed their first date together. Over the course of the next month, Maddy asked John to his Chi Psi fraternity formal (yes, you read that right), and they both went to Savannah, GA for their first trip together - this would later be where John asked Maddy to marry him. They began dating at the end of Freshman year and spent the next three years of college together. These years were filled with more late-night pizza, countless sushi and açai bowl dates, long study sessions, fraternity and sorority functions, and multiple glorious victories over Duke. After graduating, Maddy and John lived apart in their hometowns for three years. They often met halfway for sushi and a movie during the week. Maddy moved to Charlotte in August of last year and soon after, Maddy and John added another member to the household, Harley- a miniature long-haired dachshund. Maddy often says that she and John grew up together. They were just 18 and 19 when they became official, and celebrated seven special years together this May. They are so excited to solidify their love for each other with the most important people in their lives, many of which had big impacts on their love story. Cheers to growing up and growing old together.
