Caleb was living out in Sydney for work, with Maddy, unbeknown to him, just a short flight away in Bali. As she was heading to Australia afterwards, Maddy's friends convinced her to turn her dating app on, with her location as Sydney, because "Australian guys are hot". A few hours later, Caleb had spotted her profile and had wasted no time sliding into Maddy's DMs. 2 days, 10,000 messages, a 6 hour flight to Sydney, and a missed lunch date later (because Caleb got locked out of his apartment with only his flip flops and swim trunks), they met for dinner, in what would turn out to be the best, first date ever. Over the next 10 days their first date continued, with the help of bridesmaid Emma, who allowed Caleb to join the girls in their travels up north, having known him for all of about 16 hours. With Caleb heading back stateside for a bachelor party, and Maddy heading back to where she was living in the UK, they parted ways at the end of the 10 days, not knowing when they would next see each other. And so began 6 months of long distance. Starting with Maddy traveling back to Australia to see Caleb, 2 weeks later. Followed by a trip to the USA, where she met the parents, and finally, with Caleb finishing his work in Sydney, deciding to spend 6 weeks with Maddy in England, before heading back to the States. Unsurprisingly in the following month, Maddy packed up her apartment and joined him in Atlanta. The 8 months that followed were full of happiness, traveling, and making the most of their time together. When Covid-19 hit, which meant Maddy had to head back to Bermuda, Caleb got to work on a ring. As soon as the island reopened in July, Caleb, ring in pocket, flew out to see her, and got down on one knee during a private sunset cruise around the harbour.
