St. Louis Cathedral
615 Pere Antoine Alley, New Orleans, LA 70116

The site of the Cathedral-Basilica of St. Louis, King of France, has been the center of worship for the Catholic faithful in New Orleans and a major civic gathering place since its founding in 1718. The first permanent church, built in 1727, was burned in the fire of 1788. The Diocese of Louisiana was established in 1793, and the new Spanish Cathedral was completed and consecrated in 1794. In 1850, New Orleans became an Archdiocese, and in 1851 Archbishop Antoine Blanc blessed the newly expanded and restored Cathedral. In 1964, Pope Paul VI raised the Cathedral to the rank of Minor Basilica, citing its splendor, antiquity, historical significance, and pastoral zeal. The faithful come here to pray, to worship, to express thanks, to celebrate Mass, to be baptized and to be married. A pope, generals, presidents, kings, and prime ministers have been visitors, and now it is our privilege to welcome you.

Social Hour

4:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Cocktail attire: jackets are requested. We suggest wearing (or bringing) shoes you can second line in!

Immediately following the ceremony, beer and wine will be served in The Cabildo next door to the cathedral. Afterwards, join us for a second-line through the French Quarter to Broussard's for the reception. The Cabildo was finished in 1799 under Spanish rule after the Great New Orleans Fire of 1788. The Cabildo served as the center of New Orleans government until 1853, and was the location of the Louisiana Purchase transfer ceremony in 1803. In 1853, it became the headquarters of the Louisiana State Supreme Court. Since 1908, it has served as a state museum.

Reception

5:30 pm - 9:30 pm

Broussard's Restaurant & Courtyard
819 Conti Street, New Orleans, LA 70112

Cocktail attire: jackets are requested.

New Orleans-style reception: Rather than a seated dinner, there will be heavy passed items, open action stations, and bars, with many food options continuing throughout the night. Seating is left open for guests to choose and move around freely in the space, so we ask that you do not "save" seats while not in use. The first dance will occur early in the night, with the dance floor opening to guests soon after.
