Steve and I grew up in Hobbs, NM about four blocks away from one another. We went to the same elementary & high school. We had the same group of neighborhood friends. Our parents were close. Even our siblings knew one another. But our paths rarely crossed. In our late teens, we connected through mutual friends and dated for all of a month (we think) before going our very separate ways... for 25 years. Fast forward to January 2019 when I sent Steve an "innocent" message on social media, curious to know how he was and where he ended up. Four days later, after a bit of messaging back and forth, Steve suggested he call me and we talked... for hours. Six weeks later, he flew to New York and as we wandered and ate our way around the city in sub zero temperatures, we realized there was something pretty great between us. After a lot of airline points and logistics commuting between NYC and Amarillo, Steve decided he'd had quite enough and so he put a ring on my finger on a beautiful cold night in Santa Fe, almost a year to the day after I first reached out. And now here we are. 3 years later... As was the case for so many, life presented us with a lot of unexpected twists and turns over the last couple of years but we have come out the other side of it stronger and more committed than ever to this life together. I once told someone, "I think maybe I'm an urban girl, looking for a small town love." Turns out I was on to something and Steve and I both think it was well worth the (even longer) wait to get to this day.
