We first met when Brendan was a freshman at John Carroll University, and I was visiting my brother, who just so happened to be his best friend and teammate. From that very first meeting, something just clicked. We both thought it… but that’s where it stayed. Over the next few years, it never really went away. We’d see each other here and there, always a little bit of flirting, and a lot of matchmaking comments from my mom, aunt Gladys, and cousin Candace, but still no real conversation of what this could be. This went on for nearly three years… until July 2022. One night, after staying up way too late with everyone, Brendan finally admitted that he had a crush on me for years, and I admitted the same. Those feelings had been there since the very beginning. By the next morning, Brendan had already talked to my brother about taking me on a date and got the green light. I was shocked, in the best way. The next weekend, he drove from Pittsburgh to Ohio to take me on our first date. It felt easy, like something that had been a long time coming. We sat at a bench for hours talking about where we could truly see this going. Two weeks later, I met his family, and on July 22, 2022 he asked me to be his girlfriend. We spent the next year and a half doing long distance. Him finishing school at John Carroll, and me at Denison. It wasn’t always easy, but it was always worth it. Then, right before my senior year, Brendan moved to Columbus for work, and finally, we got to be in the same place. He came to my lacrosse games, spent weekends together, and we were officially out of the long distance phase. After I graduated, we moved in together in July 2024, with Chai Latte and Raisin. On July 12, 2025, with both of our families in town, Brendan proposed at the exact bench where we had our first date, the place where we first talked about what our future could look like. Surrounded by the people we love most, it was perfect. We’ve been waiting a long time for this chapter, and we can’t wait to celebrate it with all of you.
