Due to the current circumstances, we understand people may not feel comfortable attending a larger event, especially as some may be at higher risk or have health concerns. Let us assure you, Troy and I are more concerned about your well being than our wedding attendance! Please RSVP as soon as you know your decision as this will help us have an idea of what to expect. If you would like to attend but wish to stay cautious, we recommend bringing face masks. We will not be enforcing this, but respect anyone's decision to use one. The entire event will be held outdoors and there will be no assigned seating so you can stick with the group of persons you came with. We ask that everyone be respectful towards one another, mask or not. If you have any further questions you can email us at Troyandmaddie@gmail.com. We hope to see you there!
After dating for nearly two and a half years, we were finally able to spend a Christmas together. We would be in Minnesota with his family. We made the 11 hour trek up and over and were welcomed by a beautiful winter landscape. One day we went to the park for a hike through the woods with his family. After the hike we headed back to the cars where Troy said we would be splitting up for a surprise date, just me and him. We drove through snow-laden territory. Troy pulled onto a road leading up to a small farm. Troy went to make some kind of arrangements, presumably for the single horse-drawn sleigh tethered to a fence. Returning outside, Troy was followed by our driver who invited us up onto the sleigh to take us through the woods. Having bundled up with blankets, we were off. It was a beautiful and peaceful day, perfect for a private sleigh ride with the man I love. We sipped our coffees and relished the moment. It didn't happen then. Afterward, we trotted into the tent for some hot cider and made conversation with the neighbors of the farm. They asked if we just got engaged..."No, just a nice date away from the family," Troy responded. "A lot of couples get engaged during the sleigh rides!" they explained. We both smiled and sipped our cider politely. When we headed out, one man jokingly congratulated us on our engagement. "Haha, THANKS" Troy thought. Next we went to Enger Park, overlooking the city of Duluth. We started the short hike through the snow to the brick tower. Since the tower is open to the elements the stairway was covered in ice and the wind cut through the open windows in the walls. "Come on! Almost there!" Troy encouraged, as we hiked carefully up the icy, stone stairs. Finally, at the top, we made our way to a built-in bench away from the wind. Huddling closely, looking over the city, Troy recalled how he knew during our first Christmas apart that he wanted to be married. Then, pulling out the ring, he popped the BIG question.
