The first time we met was during a freshman year biology lab at Wheaton College while dissecting fetal pigs – very romantic. Coincidentally, we continued to have numerous classes together throughout the following four years as we both studied biology, up until February of our senior year, when we began getting to know each other a bit more. Our first date was finger painting at a track date night, which was orchestrated by one of Peter’s friends on the track team. Maddie’s creativity was on full display as she painted a London cityscape being invaded by aliens, inspired by the War of the Worlds which we were reading for class at the time. Peter’s Van Gogh imitation took some imagination to recognize (both paintings are pictured in the gallery), but it couldn’t have been too bad because the next morning when he asked Maddie to go on another date, she said yes! We spent much of our final semester at college together, going on walks, studying, and driving out in the cornfields or over to Lake Michigan. During this time we grew to treasure each other’s company, and became more and more amazed at the ways in which God was showing his faithfulness in drawing us nearer to each other and to Himself. At the end of the year, this faithfulness was displayed in an extra special way, as God opened a door for Maddie to move out to Littleton, CO to live with a friend who happened to live only two minutes away from the apartment where Peter would be spending the next year. As we spent more time together during evenings and weekends, God continued to make it abundantly clear to Peter that Maddie is special in a way that differs from any other person he has ever met. Ultimately, this led to a feeling of blessed peace surrounding the idea of spending the rest of our lives together. On March 12th, Peter asked Maddie to marry him and in the most amazing moment of life so far, she said yes. We are beyond excited to have the chance to celebrate God’s faithfulness and loving kindness throughout our relationship, and to come together with the people we love as we begin the rest of our lives together.
