To our friends and family, First, we hope you and your families are staying happy and healthy during this confusing, overwhelming, and unprecedented time in our lives. If there is anything we can do to help your family, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Based on the current local and federal mandates, we have made the decision to postpone our wedding to ensure the safety of ourselves and our guests. Our new wedding date is FRIDAY, OCTOBER 16TH, 2020. In addition to this notice, a “Change the Date” announcement will also be sent to guests via email. Please keep an eye out for an update invitation and RSVP information towards the end of the summer. Please note- new RSVP information will be collected online ONLY. If you are unsure of how to complete your RSVP online, please feel free to contact one of us and we will happily input the information for you. In the meantime, if you are already aware of plans in the month of October and wish to update your RSVP to reflect the new date please feel free to do so by contacting one of us or RSVPing online through the website. We are in the process of updating the “Schedule” and “Travel” pages on the website to reflect the changes. If you are planning to stay at either of the hotels, please contact the hotel or use the updated link provided on the “Travel” page. For those who already made a reservation for May 15, 2020, please cancel your current reservation and rebook for October 16, 2020. If you have any questions about this process, please feel to contact one of us or the hotel directly. Although we are disappointed that we have to wait a bit longer to become husband and wife, we have no doubt that our big day will be just as amazing on our new wedding day. We are grateful for the support and understanding of our friends and family throughout this process, and cannot wait to celebrate with each one of you in October. As always, please feel free to contact us with any questions. See you soon! Cheers, Maddie & Mike
We met at University of Illinois' 2014 Homecoming - Mike had graduated and was visiting friends, who turned out to be Maddie's roommates. Mike walked into the house and was introduced to Maddie: hungover, in sweatpants, and eating a burrito the size of a small car. We've been inseparable ever since.
We went on a “tour of our relationship”: to the first place we went on Maddie's first time visiting Mike in the city, the place of our first date, and the hotel that we had spent our last 3 anniversaries together. Next, we went to the big Christmas Tree near Millennium Park (which used to be at the Christkindle Market), a spot that we went to every year as well. We went to take a picture in front of the tree as we had every year in the past. As we arrived at the tree, there were FAR more people than was anticipated. Mike had a coworker pretending to be a tourist with his camera ready to take photos, but needing to make it seem like it was just a regular photo, Mike went up to a stranger and handed her his phone, then walked over to Maddie, who asked “what was I talking to that girl about for so long?!?!”. Mike then semi-blacked out from nerves begin blurting out what was originally a perfectly planned speech, but ended up far less eloquent. Maddie started to pick up as to what was going on, and started saying “OH MY GOD, OH MY GOD, SHUT UP, YOU’RE JOKING!” a lot, until Mike was able to formally get the question in. She said yes, and next think we know there are at least 100+ people surrounding us clapping that had seen it all unfold. After the proposal, Mike told Maddie we were going to dinner at Swift and Sons, one of our favorite restaurants in the city, to continue the “tour of our relationship”, but were stopping by Aberdeen Tap (our favorite local bar) for a drink before. As we arrived at the bar we made our way to the back room, where Mike had friends and immediate family waiting to celebrate.
