We’re Getting Married!

We have to give credit to our friend, Haley DeGroot, for this one. If she hadn’t been in English class with that one annoying kid (yes I am talking about Matt) he and I would have never met! Both Matt and I got an invitation to come over to Haley’s house. We made puppy chow and cinnamon rolls and the rest is history! I truly think it was the Justin Bieber hair cut that really got me!

As many of you know, my (Maddie) family takes a week long vacation to Paw Paw Lake in Watervliet, Michigan every year in early August. For the past 14 years we have been spending this week with my closest family, tubing, getting sun burnt, having volleyball competitions, and eating way too much food. This place became a part of my heart. Eventually, my grandparents invited Matt along with us. After a couple years, Matt understood what this place meant to me and it quickly became a part of his heart, too. This past year, Matt and I and a few family members decided to take a boat ride around the lake. At sunset, we came back an docked the boat. My family exited the boat as Matt asked me to stay and “help him find his phone”. Come to find out this was a scheme to get my family off the pier. When Matt and I got off the boat, I noticed our family and friends gathered at the end of the dock. This is the moment I realized what was about to happen. I looked over at Matt and he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. It was absolutely amazing and a day we will never forget.
