Kiawah is home to many amazing golf courses. We suggest getting in a round if you have time. It’s important to reserve tee times in advance as they book quickly. Courses include: The Ocean Course (home of the 2021 PGA Championship), Turtle Point, Osprey Point, Cougar Point, and Oak Point.
Please enjoy the beach while in town! Through the below link you can call and reserve chairs/umbrellas for the day and they will set them up at the nearest beach access point to your villa with your name on them. When you are done you can just leave them and they’ll collect them at the end of the day. Who knows, maybe the Best Man, a proud employee of Island Beach Services, will set up your set!
Kiawah is an amazing place to bike, either on the designated bike paths that run throughout the island or directly on the beach. Below are a few rental options to rent in advance of your stay. If you are staying at the Sanctuary, bikes will be made available to you through the hotel. If you are renting a home or villa, rental bikes can be delivered to your location from: - the Kiawah Resort (kiawahresort.com/recreation/bike-rentals/), - Island Bike and Surf Shop (islandbikeandsurf.com), or - Seacoast Sports (seacoastsports.com).
In addition to golf, tennis and its beautiful beaches, Kiawah is proud of its natural beauty which is also home to many birds and animals. Take a guided walk to see the egrets, pelicans, herons, piping plovers and other birds that grace the skies. Beware of the alligators that live in the lagoons. Have fun crabbing in the tidal waters. Go marsh kayaking. Arrange for a fishing charter or boat excursion. Do yoga on the beach. The Resort has a full list of activities available for guests on the island. Look at the Daily Activities section of the Resort website for specific offerings, but be sure to make reservations in advance.
Visit Freshfields Village for great restaurants, wine bars, groceries (Harris Teeter), nail salons, and shopping! Freshfields website has a detailed list of all restaurants, shops, and salons. Freshfields Village is conveniently located just outside the Kiawah main gate.
There are great restaurants all throughout Kiawah Island! A couple notable ones to mention: Ryder Cup Bar at the Ocean Course clubhouse is a great place to grab a drink or light snack and soak in the gorgeous views on the veranda or back green. Jasmine Porch is great southern restaurant located at the Sanctuary hotel. Turtle Point, Cougar Point and Osprey also offer dining options. Freshfields Village, which is just outside the front gate, has many casual lunch and dinner options such as Co-op, La Tela, 48 Wine Bar, Hege’s, Fuji Sushi and Cantina 76. For your morning coffee, there is Java Java and Starbucks at Freshfields Village, Hemingway’s on Betsy Kerrigan Parkway and, closer to the villas on Kiawah Island, is The Nest Market which has fresh coffee, food offerings from 7am-8pm and a convenience store.
Forty-five minutes off of Kiawah is the heart of Charleston, which is another option to stay or easy day or half day trip. Explore Charleston's cobblestone streets, rainbow row, or the battery, stroll into its many art galleries, or shop on King Street! Take a boat ride or walk along the Harbor. Visit Fort Sumter in Charleston Harbor or Fort Moultrie in Summerville! Take a tour of the Charleston Tea Garden in Wadmalaw Island with acres of tea bushes and production factory. If you are interested in staying in Charleston, we recommend the Hyatt Place Charleston Historic District, Francis Marion Hotel, The Mills House, Courtyard Historic District, or the Moxy Downtown Charleston. Please note that wedding-day transportation will be unavailable if you choose to stay elsewhere than on Kiawah Island, and you will be responsible for your own transportation. Please also note that rideshare services, such as Uber and Lyft, are not available once on the island.
