How We Met

November 14, 2020.

Madelynn’s POV: It was a Saturday night with the girls and of course we were looking for a party to go to. I messaged a few of my friends and the first person to give us an option was Haydin’s younger brother, Lander. Lander invited us over to Haydin’s house (who none of us knew). The girls and I were not sure if we should go but we had nothing better to do! We arrived at the house where we were greeted by several people and I locked eyes with the most handsome man I had ever seen. Haydin and I hit it off, exchanged numbers, and the next morning I told my mom I had met the man I was going to marry. Haydin’s POV: What started as a routine Saturday night spontaneously turned into me being volunteered as host for “a few people coming over”. Shortly after the original group arrived at my house, I heard a knock on the door and was met by friends of friends, etc. Without thinking too much of it I let them in and headed back to the living room, only to turn around and lock eyes with trouble itself. Through introductions and awkward ice breakers we were eventually able to exchange numbers because I had to see her again.

The Proposal

July 18, 2023

On July 18th, 2023, Haydin and I flew to Wilmington, North Carolina, for Haydin’s family reunion. I had my sneaking suspicions before we left that Haydin was going to propose! However; throughout packing, security, and unpacking in our Air-BnB I had seen no evidence! I am so nosy. As we were going to bed I started to poke at Haydin saying “I’m going to look through your bag! I’m going to do it!” Haydin quickly grew tired of me and grabbed his duffle and dumped everything out on to the bed. Nothing! He did it once more. I then saw a little square outline in a hidden pocket in his duffle. He tossed the box to me and as I opened it he said “will you marry me?” And well, here we are! And yes, he did ask for my parents blessing.
