It all began at a Northrop Bruins football game in the fall of 2014. Maddie, who knew absolutely nothing about football, cheered like she was the head coach, the MVP, and the entire marching band all at once. Cole (standing in the unlucky row directly in front of her) finally turned around, half-deaf, and asked, “Can you get any louder?!” Maddie took that as a personal challenge. Did the Bruins win that night? Probably not. But Cole definitely did, because he couldn’t get the loud, adorable girl out of his head. They exchanged numbers… which Cole promptly lost. So after weeks of lingering eye contact in the hallways and pretending not to stare during lunch, he worked up the courage to ask for it again (this time promising not to be a disaster). Soon they were chatting nonstop, flirting shamelessly, and meeting every day in the lunch line like it was their official pre-date ritual. Then Cole planned their first real date: Glenbrook Mall. The activity of choice? Smelling every single Yankee Candle within reach. Between “Clean Cotton” and “Pumpkin Spice,” they shared their very first kiss, powered by love and strong candle fumes. Their relationship took off… and Maddie was not about to waste time on some boy who couldn’t commit. She made it crystal clear: she wanted the title. Finally, in the basement of Cole’s meemaw's house (the most romantic locale in all the land) he asked why she wasn’t already his girlfriend. And just like that, they were official. Ten years, countless laughs, several moves, a few candle purchases, and approximately one million louder-than-necessary cheers later… here they are, finally getting married. And this time, Cole definitely isn’t losing her number.
