A beautiful building with a fascinating history, that was nearly demolished before being brought back to life in the late 90s. Now home to restaurants, Science City, the Planetarium, a model train gallery, and a traveling Exhibition, its definitely worth checking out.
With over 42,000 works of art on display from nearly every continent and culture, theres tons to see at the Nelson Atkins. Take a stroll through the outdoor sculpture garden or relax on the lawn with the oversized iconic Shuttlecock sculptures!
Home to more than 1,700 animals and a brand new aquarium, hop on the African Sky Safari to view animals from above!
Dating back to 1857, this historic area boasts a fantastic farmers market and local shops with food and drink. When youre done, head over to the Steamboat Arabia Museum- a sunken time capsule with 200 tons of nearly perfectly preserved cargo from the 1800s. Any of the three River Market streetcar stops will get you very close to the market.
Take a walk through the museum and view a variety of galleries with great info and artifacts from WWI. We highly recommend taking an elevator ride up to the top of Liberty Tower for a GREAT view of downtown. Buy your ticket inside, even if you dont have time to do the museum. Taking the streetcar to Union Station would get you fairly close, then its a quick 10 minute walk up a hill to the front entrance!
Park in any of the free garages and take a stroll around the historic Plaza. Go fountain hunting and see how many you can find, Kansas City is fondly called the City of Fountains, said to have more than any city, except Rome.
