Brendon and Madalyn met as members of the Marching Virginians at Virginia Tech (Brendon played the saxophone and Madalyn played the piccolo). Virginia Tech has been a huge part of their relationship and life together. Brendon spent months planning the most perfect surprise engagement back at the place the two met. He secretly contacted Madalyn's internship coordinators to make sure she had the weekend of the 23rd free, and the two packed their bags and hit the road to Blacksburg. They spent the whole day Friday reminiscing about college days and visiting new places like Rising Silo Brewery. The couple even went to the Marching Virginians' practice to visit their band director, Dave McKee, where he invited the two to come down to the sideline to watch the band perform the next day (he was in on the surprise). Later that evening, Brendon's cousin Jessica, her husband CJ, and baby Carter arrived in town for the weekend. In the morning, the crew got ready for Virginia Tech to play Old Dominion University and even stopped at a favorite bar downtown, TOTS. Brendon's cousin Dan and his girlfriend Sheera also arrived and Madalyn had no idea of the surprise that was to come. At halftime of the football game, Brendon, Madalyn, and CJ (with camera in tow to capture the moment) made their way to the sideline to watch the band. At the end of the show, Brendon got down on one knee and asked for Madalyn's hand in marriage, to which she replied "Of course!" The two turned around and saw both of their families and friends from throughout their lives cheering from the stands. Brendon had invited them all into town to surprise Madalyn and celebrate that evening. Everyone went back to the Ball's tailgate to celebrate the incredible day. Thank you to all of our family and friends who made this special moment possible - we love you all!
