If you know anything about our story, you know it began over SnapChat. What you might not know is that we knew each other before then. While neither of us can you tell you about the first time we met (because we don’t totally remember), we can tell you that it was through mutual college friends in the 2013 spring semester. It’s likely our first “hello” was in Delta Chi’s basement. If we are being honest, it’s actually even more likely that we owe it all to “the cherry wave” bringing us together. In spring 2014, Ryan went to Australia for a semester abroad. During this time, the SnapChat MyStory emerged. Macy saw through Ryan’s MyStory that he was in Australia - along with about 6 other people she knew. A simple response of “you’re in Australia too?!” started a semester-long SnapChat series of ocean cliff diving, bungie jumping, Minnesota blizzards and Red Bull sampling. Of course, Ryan still likes to tell people that Macy slid into his DM’s first. The first time they met upon on his return was at the one and only - Wednesday Mug Night at Baldy’s BBQ in Dinkytown. Macy was using her fake ID, armed with moral support of friends, and somewhat surprised by Ryan's height. He was hiding a mini stuffed koala bear in his pocket to gift her, and by the second date, he surprised her with a bottle of wine he brought back from Australia and a half gallon of low fat, cookie dough ice cream. As soon as he left, she texted her mom, “I think I love a boy.” And the rest is history.
Then Once Upon a Time.. Macy decided when she was 22 years old (after 2 years of dating) that her perfect engagement would be on her golden birthday - 26 years old on February 26th, 2020… As long as Ryan could stick around until then. Low and behold, after 5 years and 9 months together, he got the hint and made her dreams come true, surprised her with friends to celebrate, and ordered half the menu at 112 Eatery. They turned their joined birthday party into an engagement party with 100 friends and family to share the excitement! Now, we can’t wait to celebrate our wedding day with you in Macy’s home state of South Dakota!
As of now, we are continuing with all wedding plans in place for September 18, 2021. As we wait to see where the progression of this virus goes, we will keep in mind that our plans may have to change for all our guests' health and safety, and we will notify you if such things happen. We also understand that COVID has affected most of us in completely unprecedented ways this past year. If you are uncomfortable making a decision about your attendance at this time, that is just fine. Please try to let us know by August 14th at the latest. In the meantime, don't forget to wear a mask, physically distance, and get vaccinated so we can host #TheBetzDayEver!
