The Proposal

We have always talked about wanting to go skydiving; it was even one of our conversations on our second date. One day, out of nowhere, Godwin told me that he had called to book a skydiving appointment and that we would finally make it happen. At first, I thought it was a joke, but I later realized he was VERY serious. After weeks of anticipation, the nerves began to creep in. I tried to convince him to cancel the booking on multiple occasions, but he kept encouraging us to do it. I assumed that doing this was his way of celebrating his recent college graduation. Little did I know that there was a reason for his insistence, his plans to propose. On June 13, 2021, we arrived at the skydiving center, and my nerves began to peak. The uneasy feeling continued to rise when we were asked to sign a waiver before making the jump. This waiver made us agree that we would not sue for death, injury, equipment failure, etc. While I was internally freaking out and rethinking our decision, Godwin continued to act calm. We completed the waiver, watched a few safety videos, and soon enough, it was time to load onto the plane. Once we got on the plane, all of my nerves disappeared. I knew it was too late to back out, so I figured we may as well enjoy the ride. On the other hand, all of Godwin's nerves finally began to show. I vividly remember Godwin asking me how high up we were. When I answered with, "1,000 feet up, 13,000 more to go," he nearly lost it! I could tell he was trying to play it cool, but he later told me that he was rethinking his entire existence at that moment. As the airplane door slid open and the passengers in front of us casually began to jump out, I could see the terror on his face. Godwin jumped first, and then I followed. Once we jumped, any and all fear escaped our bodies, and all that was left was pure admiration for the beautiful world God has created and blessed us with. Godwin landed first and immediately began to prepare for the proposal. As I landed from my jump, I noticed a giant banner with photos of us and a question that he intended to ask me... "MaClay Alexis Wilson, Will You Marry Me?" As I looked over, Godwin was there on his knees, asking me to be his wife. I said YES and couldn't hold back the tears. The adrenaline, pure shock, and joy made for one of the best feelings I have ever experienced. We enjoyed that moment together, just the two of us. We were later joined by family, friends, and loved ones back home to celebrate with us. Having our loved ones come together to celebrate was just the perfect ending to an already memorable and magical day. June 13, 2021, will always be a special day we will never forget.
