Jenny and Matt first became friends when they met at Spiritus Sanctus Academy where Matt was a teacher and Jenny's children are students. Their friendship grew over mutually shared interests including distance running and ice hockey. After a few months of friendship, Matt asked Jenny out on a date and just a few weeks later they were discerning the intention of marriage. Matt asked Jenny's dad for permission to marry Jenny on Monday of Holy Week and asked her children on Wednesday. They all said yes. On Saturday evening Matt took Jenny to the Vigil Mass at St. Joseph's Oratory in downtown Detroit. At 1:30 am after mass, Jenny said "yes" in a private proposal which took place under the pavilion at Spiritus Sanctus Academy.
