It Was in the Cards

You had me at Uno...

Her Side: Late nights bartending at Maria's could be brutal. Especially when it was slow. It was one of those brutal nights. Besides Roy at the end of the bar, only one other couple populated Maria's. Someone suggested Uno. I reached down, grabbed the uno deck, and tossed it on the bar top. It was go time. I'm extremely competitive. I wanted to win so much, we were not going to be done playing until I made that happen. The first game began and ended, I lost. The second started and finished, I lost. The third game came and went, I lost AGAIN. By now, it's 1:30 a.m. and I will not let people stop. 20 minutes into game 5, I'm standing there with half the deck in my hands, I look across from me and Roy has 2 cards. Panic sets in that I'm going to lose. History is about to be repeated. It's Roy's turn. Staring at me, he throws down a "switch hands" card and smiles as he holds out his hand to me. He always claims I had him at Uno. That that was the night he started falling and that's why he switched hands with me. I said it was because he wanted to go to bed. But who cares, I got the guy AND won Uno. So I'm happy. =] His Side: The first time I knew I wanted to be with Kenzie was our first time playing Uno. I've never met anyone more competitive. It was attractive. There were a few of us playing. She would have played all night until she won. I picked up an exchange hands cards in a newer version of the game I had never seen before. She had 20+ cards and I had 2 for the fourth or fifth game in a row. So I exchanged hands and took her cards for mine so she could win. Seeing the smile on her face when she eventually won was my win. She had me at Uno.
