Recap of the day he proposed! We never want to forget this day!
After high school freshman Omar Prewitt hit a last second shot (that may or may not have counted) to bring the Montgomery County Indians a victory over the Madison Central Indians, Mackenzie Humphrey would hold a grudge for the next 9+ years - as her friends prank called Omar on the weekends. The two had many mutual friends all through high school and college. In March 2017, the two crossed paths in Nashville during the SEC tournament. Omar will claim he tried to hit on Mackenzie that night, but she was too busy dancing with her friends and never noticed. Fast forward to May of 2020 - quarantine - when Omar had returned from playing overseas and COVID was all anyone was talking about. The two began hanging out with the same friend group and Snapchatting daily. Omar won her heart with his ridiculous voices and charm. He eventually worked up the nerve to show up at Mackenzie's place in the middle of a full closet clean-out. He tried on her clothes and let her keep most of them. The two continued to hang out all summer, going for walks and eating key lime pie but never going on a "real" date. They decided to try out the long distance when Omar moved to the Czech Republic after only a month of dating. Their relationship continued to grow stronger despite the distance (thank you FaceTime) as Omar's basketball career took him next to Germany and Turkey and Mackenzie pursued surgical residency in Lexington.
Mackenzie thought Omar had just planned a staycation at a new, hip spot in Lexington as she loves staying in hotels. She'd been working nights for many weeks and had just gotten off work at 6am that day. Needless to say, it was difficult to get her moving for check in at The Manchester and even more difficult to get her out of the hotel robe and bed once they'd arrived. This did, however, make it easier for Omar to make plans as she slept. After a wonderful meal, Omar had reserved a corner of the outdoor patio where a bottle of rosé and candles were waiting. He first gave her a card with a heartfelt message inside. (She'd been asking if he was ever going to write her a letter.) With teary eyes, he pulled the ring box from behind a pillow and asked her to stand. He got down on one knee and she said, "Are you serious??" She of course said yes and they were engaged! Mac was surprised yet again to find so many of their close family and friends waiting to celebrate at Goodfellas after. Our friends and family mean the world to us and have played such a huge role in our relationship. We're so excited to celebrate this next chapter in our lives with you.
