We have gone from high school sweethearts, to best friends, to sweethearts again, and now we are on the journey to becoming husband and wife. Many of our family and friends would say that they knew this moment was coming long before we did. We've loved each other for more than 10 years and cannot wait to spend the rest our lives together.
As many know, each year we give Jake's mother tickets to the Renaissance Festival Pub Crawl for her birthday. Well on this special trip, Jake's parents and the two of us arrived about 45 minutes before we needed to check in with our tickets. In true form, Mack led the group quickly on our way to the beginning of the crawl, which is on the far side of the festival. Unbeknownst to her, the rest of us deliberately slowed. There is a spot in the festival where we have never been able to get pictures: a small fountain water fall, ornate with colorful flowers next to a small gazebo. This is usually packed with people to take pictures, as it is easily one of the best locations to do so. As she scurried past it, Jake's parents walked into the gazebo to ready a camera and Jake hurried up to Mack to bring her back for a picture. Luckily, the weather was not perfect; warm but slightly overcast with a strong chance of rain. Jake convinced Mack that this was the best opportunity to get a picture at the waterfall where they never have. As Jake's mother took picture after picture, Mack seemed to be a little confused as to why she was taking so many....then she realized Jake had stopped putting his arm around her for the pictures. As she turned, she looked down at him, blue eyes wide and watering. Jake, on one knee staring up at her began, "Milady...I pledge my life and love to you if you would have me." Astonished and ecstatic, she said: "NO, NO, NO! Oh my god! What?!?" And then she put on the ring and they embraced for the first time as a betrothed couple.
