Mackenzie and CJ met through mutual friends at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic when Mackenzie had been sent home from her semester studying abroad in Rome, Italy. Something clicked and they decided to go on a date. With all the uncertainty surrounding the pandemic, Mackenzie and CJ decided to take a walk around the Greenbury Point Trail. On May 12, 2020, they met at the trail only to find that it was closed for Naval Academy firing practice. Instead, they walked around the empty Naval Academy Golf Course and ended up discovering Possum Point which looked out over the Chesapeake Bay. What started as a simple 2-hour hiking date turned into a 9-hour adventure which included exploring the area, watching the sunset over the Chesapeake Bay, and getting to know more about each other. The rest is history!

The morning of Saturday, March 18, 2023, Mackenzie woke up with the expectation that CJ was taking her on a brunch date. As she threw on her usual casual attire, CJ reminded Mackenzie that the brunch was a date and that the couple should dress as such. Mackenzie begrudgingly changed and the two headed out to brunch. In the car, CJ suggested that they take a detour to the spot where they had their first date, Possum Point. This did not seem suspicious to Mackenzie since they had visited the area multiple times since they first started dating and even coined the location as "Our Spot". It was a beautiful day, and when they arrived they stood for a while taking in the view. The next thing Mackenzie knew CJ was grabbing her hands and dropping to one knee saying "I can only hope to make you as happy as you have made me." Mackenzie was in disbelief as she accepted CJ's proposal because she had no inclination that any of this was occurring. As they embraced in excitement, Mackenzie's sister and one of her best friends emerged from the bushes where they had been hiding to capture the moment. Mackenzie broke down in tears of joy. The four went back to the Miller's house where family and friends were waiting to celebrate the newly engaged couple. CJ had officially pulled off the greatest surprise Mackenzie had ever experienced.
