Things To Do

We're excited to share some of our favorite places with you! If you have a little time while you're in town, we highly recommend wandering around downtown New Bern. With its charming streets, waterfront views, and locally owned shops and restaurants, it truly feels like stepping straight into a Hallmark movie. Grab a coffee or some ice cream, walk along the riverfront, or check out some of the cute boutiques-- enjoy this small-town charm that makes this place so special to us! We hope you love New Bern as much as we do! Fun Facts about New Bern: 1. New Bern was the first State Capital of North Carolina. 2. Bern means bear and the people of New Bern love showing off their “Bear Town” pride. That’s why you’ll find bear statues throughout town. 3. Founded in 1710, New Bern is North Carolina’s second-oldest town 4. New Bern gets its name from the capital city of Switzerland.

Tryon Palace

Tryon Palace is one of North Carolina's best-known historic homes and one of the most popular things to do in New Bern! New Bern was also North Carolina’s first permanent capitol- check out Tyron's Palace to learn more.

Union Point Park

The waterfront at Union Point Park is a wonderful spot to catch the sunrise and watch boats as they pass by. This is where the Neuse and Trent River meets! It's a cute little area to see some seriously pretty sunsets, and get the costal feel of New Bern.

Birthplace of Pepsi Cola

The Birthplace of Pepsi, located in historic New Bern, North Carolina, is the actual site where Caleb Bradham first invented Pepsi-Cola in his pharmacy in 1898.

Mitchell Hardware

Family-owned and -operated since 1898, Mitchell Hardware has everything you need, as a good general store should! Want to bring something home from New Bern- this is the place to look! They have everything from planters (if you know Sam, you know she loves gardening stuff), old school candy, tools, and kitchen gadgets. This is one of our favorite places to stop by when we're in town.

Cypress Hall

Cypress Hall is one of our favorites! Pop in for a fun cocktail, and some yummy southern food.

Baxter's 1892

Inspired by the jazz clubs of the Roaring Twenties, Baxter's 1892 is a classic restaurant & cocktail bar. This lounge used to be a jewelry store in the 1920's and has kept the jewelry/watch store feel! If you want to jump back in time, check out Baxter's for light bites and drinks.
