The Proposal - 10/22/22
*As told by Macey* John had planned a romantic one-night getaway for the two of us to celebrate our 2 year dating anniversary. We were going to stay in a cute little air bnb on Lake Norman. When we arrived that afternoon, there was a group of guys having a party next door in their back yard and blasting party music. John suggested I unload the car, and he would go over and ask them for recommendations for breweries nearby. This was a little odd, but I didn’t think much of it. When he walked over there, the music stopped. He came back and said they gave him some good recommendations, then he suggested we walk down to the pier in the back yard of our air bnb. At that point, everything felt a little off, because John started seeming a little nervous. Again, I convinced myself I was overthinking, and that we were just going to check out the water. When we got to the end of the pier, John suggested that we take a photo together. (when we have no one to take our photo, we set my phone up to take a video and screenshot photos from the video). So he set my phone up, and that’s when I noticed the guys from next door all watching us, our song started playing on their loud speaker, and I turned around to see John pulling a ring out and getting down on one knee. The cheering you hear in the video is the group of random guys next door who ended up offering to play our song and helping him set up the most romantic proposal I could’ve imagined.
We have always loved telling the story of how we met, because we have one person to thank, Carol! I worked in a salon in 2020, where Carol, John’s mother, got her hair done about every 5 weeks. One day while Carol was getting her hair done by another stylist, I overheard Carol talking about her oldest son, John, who had returned from the army and wasn’t having the best luck with dating. I wasn’t interested, having just gotten out of a relationship. Even so, Carol’s stylist, my boss at the time, let her know that I was single. After that, she began convincing me to add John on Facebook. After we became Facebook friends, I ended up messaging him, and we were dating two weeks later. The rest is history! Thanks Carol, you’re the best!
